MEDIEVAL VILLAGES AND VENETIAN ECHOES

The history of Venice mirrored by Pordenone’s lands; the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, full of charm and mystery; and some typical recipes to taste and… learn!

 

DAY 1

Arrival, meeting with the tour guide and departure for a pleasant walk in Polcenigo, a small village of medieval origin and a stop at Gorgazzo, a site of incommensurable naturalistic value where the water rises to the surface creating a spring.  We will proceed then to the “Santissima”, a perennial source of water that derives from the calcareous group of mountains Prealpi del Cansiglio and is one of the major springs of the Livenza river. Lunch in a typical local restaurant to eat one of the specialties of the area: the trout. The tour will continue to Sacile, a town called “Giardino della Serenissima” (the Serenissima Garden)because of the Venetian atmosphere created by the architecture of the elegant palaces that reflect themselves in the blue water of the river.  After a walk across its bridges, relax for a little shopping and return to the hotel in the evening. Dinner at a restaurant with typical local products.

DAY 2

After breakfast, departure from the train station for a whole day excursion in the city of Venice. Lunch and dinner at your leisure; return to the hotel in the evening by train (about 1hr).

DAY 3

Departure after breakfast with the tour guide for a whole day excursion in the towns of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene through one of the most important wine roads in Italy: the Prosecco Territory DOCG. After visiting Conegliano and its Castle we will proceed towards the green hills to visit a magnificent Venetian Villa that hosts one of the most famous wineries in the area. A light lunch tasting local specialties to follow; in the afternoon, on the way back to Sacile, take a break to visit Vittorio Veneto and its ancient borough Serravalle, built in Roman time. Dinner in a typical local restaurant and overnight accommodation.

DAY 4

Departure after breakfast for an excursion to Spilimbergo, a beautiful small town with a quaint historical center and a castle where the spectacular Palazzo Dipinto stands out. A visit to the worldwide famous “Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli” (Friuli Mosaic School) cannot be missed; the best mosaic artists are trained at this school and you will be stunned by their works. Lunch in a typical local restaurant and on the way back  stop in Maniago, a small town north of Pordenone, well known for its knife production.  After visiting the Museo dell’Arte Fabbrile e delle Coltellerie, that gathers information about the steel manufacture of the factories in the area, take a chance to stop and do some shopping. Return to Sacile and dinner at the hotel or in a typical local restaurant. Overnight accommodation.

DAY 5

After breakfast meeting with the tour guide for the visit of the old medieval village Cordovado, with its castle, the ancient S. Andrea parish church area, the 1600’s Sanctuary of the Madonna and the convent of the Dominican fathers. Lunch in a typical restaurant with local specialties’ tasting. In the afternoon the tour will continue with the visit of Valvasone, a small town that lies on the right side of the Tagliamento river, rich in historical memories.  The magnificent Medieval Castle and its ancient center with arched roof houses are a must see, along with the medieval and renaissance buildings, the square in renaissance style, the antique XV cent. water mill with wheel,  narrow streets, sundials and wells. The trip will continue with the visit of the beautiful local winery with buffet meal and wine tasting. Overnight  accommodation in a hotel.

DAY 6

After breakfast, meeting with a local cook for a fantastic culinary experience at our unique cooking school in Pordenone, starting with some food shopping with the chef that will walk you to typical local shops and to the market, then back to the stoves to start cooking lunch with your own hands and eat it later in the dining room, together with the chef. The rest of the day will be free for your shopping in town.
