The Cathedral that became a parish church back in 1278, was rebuilt on existing thirteenth century works in Romanesque-Gothic style as of 1363, with restructuring works that followed. It holds several works by Giovanni Antonio de' Sacchis known as “Pordenone” (the altar piece dedicated to the Patron, Our Lady of Mercy, the compartments of the baptismal font and some frescoes including the San Rocco, considered to be his self-portrait) as well as many other works that adorn the interior.

Notable is the Chapel of Saints Peter and Paul (Cappella dei Santi Pietro e Paolo), where the fresco decorations that are attributed to Gentile da Fabriano are preserved in the top part.  The great portal dated 1511 stands out on the façade; this is the work of Giovanni Antonio Pilacorte a stonecutter, who also made the Holy water stoup and Baptistry bowl.
