He’s generally considered the greatest painter of XVIth c. in Friuli. He worked in Friuli, but also in Veneto and Lombardia.

He starts off with a Friulian and Venetian formation and perhaps, after a trip to Rome approaches the language of the "modern mannerism", the fruit of knowledge of the works of Raffaello and Michelangelo. “Il Pordenone”, as the “pictor modernus”  as he was then called, shows a successful mediation between the Nordic tradition and the more modern Roman models in his works. He pioneered a certain finesse that belonged to the late Mannerism in his suggestive compositional effects that then became a “lesson” for local artists.

In addition to Friuli and Veneto, Pordenone worked in Emilia, Lombardia, Liguria, Umbria and other regions.
